Since Sun Life's acquisition of Assurant employee benefits, there has been information circulating that providers are no longer able to participate with United Concordia through Sun Life (formerly Assurant) in United Concordia's Alliance network. However, we want to assure you that the arrangement between the two companies has not ended! Providers are still able to participate with United Concordia in the Alliance network through Sun Life. However, in some areas there have been some changes made in the amount of plans that are accessible through this shared arrangement.
In an effort to maintain costs, Employers/Groups have the option to decide which networks their employees have access to under their group policies. Some of the groups that were previously accessible to providers participating in either United Concordia's Alliance or Advantage Plus networks have elected to only allow access through the Advantage plus network available directly through United Concordia. This means that providers participating in the Alliance network may now be considered out of network for plans in which they were previously considered participating. Please keep in mind that this may affect some providers more than others, and others may not be affected at all. Unfortunately there is no way to confirm all of the groups that have made this change but we have been advised that providers will no longer be considered in network for the Federal Dental Program (FEDVIP) through the Alliance network. It is very important moving forward that providers verify whether or not they are in-network for each patient with a United Concordia policy prior to starting treatment. This can be done by requesting a fax with a breakdown of benefits, online on the provider portal, or by speaking to a customer service representative.
